About USRowing:
USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. The organization’s mission is to steward, strengthen, and grow American rowing by championing performance and igniting new passion for the sport.

USRowing selects, trains, and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition. The organization serves multiple constituencies including novice learn-to-rowers, parents of rowers, masters rowers, adaptive rowers, collegiate rowers, indoor rowers and, most recently, coastal rowers.
We are focused on growing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport of rowing on a national scale, on increasing support for our national team programs, and providing additional benefits and value to our over 77,000 individual members and 1,430 rowing organizations.

Job Summary:
USRowing is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Competition Associate to support the Sr. Director of Programs and the competition team in the daily operations of the department.

With 13+ domestic regattas hosted annually—spanning youth, collegiate, post-collegiate, and masters categories—this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in their work, and enjoys bringing complex events to life from start to finish. Strong project management skills are essential, as the Competition Associate will help oversee timelines, track deliverables, and ensure seamless coordination across all aspects of event planning and execution.

USRowing manages all disciplines of rowing, including classic rowing, beach sprint rowing, and indoor rowing. The Competition Associate will play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of events across these formats, contributing to the development of regatta policies, entry packets, race schedules, and registration systems. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and team player, confident in managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including coaches, athletes, referees, local organizing committees (LOCs), contractual third parties, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional regatta planning efforts with a strong focus on project management, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and communication channels are clear and consistent.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive playbooks to standardize the regatta experience across all age groups and disciplines, establishing a consistent “USRowing Standard” at every event.
  • Collaborate with the Competition Team and key stakeholders to design and implement best practices for hosting the country’s premier rowing events.
  • Create and update regatta policies, entry packets, and procedural guides in coordination with event stakeholders, referees, and regional councils.
  • Oversee the configuration and deployment of USRowing’s registration platform for each regatta, ensuring accuracy and usability.
  • Design and manage the development of regatta race schedules, incorporating feedback from LOCs, referees, and competition staff.
  • Facilitate regular planning meetings with USRowing partner Local Organizing Committees and referee teams to align on event logistics, timelines, and expectations.
  • Partner with other USRowing departments (marketing, membership, events, etc.) to deliver a high-quality experience both on and off the water.
  • Provide customer service support related to regatta operations and participant needs, maintaining a positive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Travel to USRowing regional and national championship events to lead on-site execution and ensure alignment with the regatta playbooks.
  • Contribute to the growth and structure of emerging event formats, including indoor rowing and beach sprints.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and success of USRowing
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in hosting large scale events.
  • Proven leadership ability, including experience serving as a primary point of contact and leading cross-functional event operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of the sport of rowing.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with fine attention to detail.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work creatively in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to travel to all necessary travel.
  • High level of enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.
Compensation: $55,000 - $60,000 based on experience

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
